Feb 13th 2023 gave us the lowest ever sea ice extent in the Antarctic. Since 1979 there has been no significant trend in the amount of sea ice in the southern hemisphere, and it has been chaotic in recent decades, swinging between huge ups and downs.
But with several years of record lows in sea ice extent, this new minimum adds weight to the idea that a downward trend may be emerging in the data. Is this true? Find out what the story means in this video.
