The Western Union Company is a very old American multinational financial services company, headquartered in Denver, Colorado. In fact it was one of the first listed companies to make up the DOW JONES index on Wall Street.
Founded in 1851 as the New York and Mississippi Valley Printing Telegraph Company in Rochester, New York, the company changed its name to the Western Union Telegraph Company in 1856 after merging with several other telegraph companies.
It has had many buyouts and takeovers over its long history in communications and money wire transfers eventually settling on transferring money for people all over the world.
