The Western Cape is preparing for the potential impact of El Niño, with officials warning of a hotter, drier and longer summer. Two wildfires were contained today with the fire season expected to start earlier and stretch beyond the usual three to four months. But water is also a concern. Dam levels are at 80 percent, with earlier restrictions being considered. Government says it has been building its fire-season readiness plan since 2015, with additional resources being prepared for a longer, more intense season.
