…Well… Art is about creating tension and resolution… Let’s see how one might use a rhythm like this in a song to do that…

This is just an example, but if I’m in a 5/4 time signature, playing Quarter notes with the kick… and 8th notes with the ride.

I can then play 8th note 9-lets and it’ll sound like my ride hand is slowing down very slightly, out of phase… then it resolves.
