The New Horizons spacecraft saw a strange object beyond Pluto. It looks like two spherical rocks put together, resembling a snowman, a shape never seen in the universe before. The object has been named Arrokoth, and it’s the most distant object explored by a spacecraft. It lies 6 billion km away from the Sun and about 1.6 million km away from Pluto. In its journey beyond Pluto, the New Horizons probe conducted a high-speed flyby of Arrokoth. The spacecraft found that its red hue is even more pronounced than that of Pluto. With an almost circular orbit, Arrokoth takes roughly 293 Earth years to complete one trip around the Sun. This stable orbit suggests that it has not been influenced by the gravity of larger planets and has likely maintained a consistent distance from the Sun since the solar system's formation.
