I can’t over-emphasize the importance of the “putting your ass” part of this idea. Sitting down, getting to the studio, getting your instrument, making the 500th phone call. The important thing is that you get yourself there. That’s the hard work. That’s where it all starts.
When I sit down at my desk I don’t worry about how many words I write. At the end of that day I don’t look back to see if it’s good or if the punctuation is write. I make a note of how much time I spent in my chair in front of my screen – that is the work. If you do it often enough the rest comes.
