Many organizations today recognize the importance of vibration analysis for rotating assets and have established this procedure as part of their reliability programs. Vibration analysis is generally the go-to technology for rotating assets and although it provides many benefits, it has weaknesses and limitations that need to be addressed by using complementary technologies such as ultrasound.

At ITM Instruments, our mission is to provide you with all the information you need to ensure that your assets are taken care of so that they can perform well overtime and save you from unnecessary costs. That is why we teamed up with SDT to host a webinar on utilizing ultrasound and vibration for bearing health assessment.

We know that bearing health assessment is a prominent aspect of well-established reliability programs for many organizations, which generally use vibration analysis as their go-to technology for rotating assets. While this is a good strategy, it can be even better by combining complementary technologies. Doing so increases the ability to make more confident assessments about the underlying condition of the assets that are critical to organizational objectives. Therefore, we will explore why combining the powerful analysis of vibration with the advanced warning and vigilance of ultrasound leads to more effective results for defect detections and root cause analysis.

This week, we hosted a webinar on utilizing ultrasound and vibration for bearing health assessment. Here’s some information on what we covered:
• How ultrasound reveals the bearing fault frequencies that often get buried in the noise floor of vibration measurements
• How performing a 10 second airborne inspection to your flexible couplings when your assets are operational can identify early wear, lack of grease, and save you from performing unnecessary routine inspections during shutdowns
• How ultrasound easily detects increased friction in bearings and allows you to ensure the correct amount of grease resides in the bearing raceway
