In the past, detecting gas leaks meant risking getting injuries or losing your life, and getting regulatory violations, fines, and lost revenue. Today, we have access to technology known as optical gas imaging (OGI) that allows you to detect methane, sulfur hexafluoride, and hundreds of other industrial gases quickly, accurately, and safely without shutting down systems. These cameras can scan broad sections of equipment rapidly and survey areas that are hard to reach with traditional contact measurement tools. In addition, OGI technology also presents many other benefits such as speed and accuracy.
This week, ITM Instruments teamed up with Teledyne FLIR to host a webinar on “Fugitive Emission Leak Detection.” This one-hour session provides insight into the benefits and importance of OGI technology for detecting gas leaks. We provided you with all the information you need to ensure that you are maximizing safety, speed, and efficiency while minimizing unnecessary costs. We dove deep into the use of OGI technology in hydrocarbon leak detection and why this technology makes OGI infrared inspection cameras unique and capable of seeing gas leaks. We also covered the many styles and types of OGI cameras and share the top 10 tips that will help you get the most out of your camera for leak detection.
During this one-hour webinar, we covered:
• The science behind optical gas imaging (OGI) – Why can’t I see gas with my regular thermal camera?
• What types of gases can you see with an OGI camera?
• How sensitive are the OGI cameras?
• What equipment do I need to have a successful gas leak survey?
• How will environmental factors affect my measurements?
• What are the minimum and maximum size leaks that can be successfully quantified using FLIR technology?
• What is the maximum distance from the leak source at which I can repeatedly inaccurately use the QOGI method?
