This webinar explores the Filipino diaspora’s global presence and its missional significance, highlighting current migration realities, key statistics, and practical insights for diaspora ministry. Continuing the conversation around diaspora missiology, in this session Dr. Terry Casino (ThD, PhD) explores The Global Filipino Presence: Realities and Contextual Practices for Diaspora Missions.
With over 10–12 million Filipinos living outside the Philippines, the session reviews land- and sea-based migration, major host regions (especially the Americas), demographic patterns (including a majority of women migrants), and the economic impact of remittances as a notable share of national GDP. He then addresses contextual push-and-pull factors—economic, sociological, political, religious, environmental, and modern slavery—while framing migration as an opportunity for “missions among/with/by people on the move.” The talk concludes with “missionomics,” emphasizing collaboration and using local resources to maximize ministry impact with minimal funding, including examples of Filipino tentmakers planting churches across countries.
