Chief Seattle’s real name in his native Lushootseed language was siʔaɬ (pronounced See-ahlth), often anglicized as Sealth or Si’ahl. He was a 19th-century leader of the Suquamish and Duwamish tribes in the Puget Sound region and was baptized with the name Noah Sealth in 1852.
