We’re powering a new era of global weather forecasting with WeatherNext 2, our most advanced and efficient AI model. It delivers more accurate, higher-resolution predictions to help everyone—from businesses managing global supply chains to you planning your day—make better, faster decisions.

☁️ WeatherNext 2 is a breakthrough AI forecasting model from Google DeepMind and Google Research that is 8x faster than previous systems and provides forecasts with resolution up to 1-hour. It surpasses our previous state-of-the-art model on 99.9% of weather variables.

⚡️ This model is enabled by a new AI modelling approach called a Functional Generative Network (FGN), allowing it to predict thousands of possible weather outcomes from a single starting point in less than a minute on a single TPU.

WeatherNext technology is already upgrading forecasts in Search, Gemini, Pixel Weather, and Google Maps Platform’s Weather API. Businesses can now customize WeatherNext 2 models and create forecasts through Google Cloud Vertex AI. WeatherNext 2 is also available for downstream model training via BigQuery and Google Earth Engine.
