Throughout her career, Dolly Parton never lost sight of her humble Tennessee roots, or the people she could help along the way.
Even in her later years, she continued to create, give and invest in the community that helped shape her, leaving an impact that extends far beyond music.
Raised in Sevier County, Tennessee, Parton was born in 1946 in a home with 11 siblings.
At just 13 years old, she debuted at the Grand Ole Opry, introduced by Johnny Cash.
“We'd come down to Nashville back and forth to Nashville in an old beat-up car, sleeping in the back seat. Go to the Grand Ole Opry looking at all the greats, and now, that was always my dream,” Parton said on stage during a previous event at the Grand Ole Opry.
