"What hurts the most is knowing we were never going to be together...."
Aqua and Zack met during the war and became close. Closer then either of them had ever expected. But Zack was already taken; engaged to his high school sweetheart back home.
They where both too honorable to and duty bound to break such an oath. But they still looked after one another. when Zack was captured by the enemy, Aqua saved him.
But, when the war ended, Aqua put her foot down. Zack wasn't hers and she loved him too much to be friends. So they went their separate ways; Aqua never even looked back.
Zack would call her, but she'd ignore him. It was better that way, she thought. But Zack was loosing his mind; haunted by the time he was in enemy hands. The only person who could understand him would have nothing to do with him.
Aqua saw it on the news. A murder/suicide. Zack's dead face was on the screen. Aqua lost it. He was all she ever wanted, but could never have. She couldn't even have the satisfaction of knowing he was happy.

gahhh. This did not turn out the way I had hopped. Kinda got busy and ran outta time. Oh wells.
I decided that, this time, death wouldn't be the only separation. Actually, it's more like the final nail in the coffin. They were never going to be together long before that. And it's their own honor that wouldn't allow it. They couldn't do that to Aeris.
doing the right thing sometimes means never being with the person you love. Which is a different form of separation then just death, but it can be just as long lasting.
Least favorite couple:
This is kinda hard, but I guess it would be Cloud/Tifa. I'm not a huge fan of Cloud ( Advent Children kinda killed my liking for him). He's just so mopey. But I hate it when someone can't make a choice. It's obvious he liked Aerith, but he did some things in the original game that made it seem like he might have feelings left for Tifa.
He totally strings her along. I can't see them ever actually being together though. Plus I don't like Aerith/Cloud either, but that's cause Zack is better.
I don't really like Cloud with anyone because I can't see him making someone else happy when he can't be happy himself.
He's frustrating.
