I composed We Weathered the Night in the spring of 2020 while quarantining in the countryside during the first months of the pandemic. At the time, there was an air of uncertainty and bewilderment gripping our societies, but also a sense of possibility. 2 years have passed since, I’m still not sure where we’ve ended. We haven’t enacted some of the profound changes one could’ve hoped for but there are certainly ways in which we showed extreme resilience, empathy and collective strength in the face of adversity.
