The Nobel Peace Prize 2025 is awarded to Maria Corina Machado. In this interview shortly after the prize announcement, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee was interviewed by journalist Stig Arild Pettersen.
He tells us why Machado was awarded the prize: “She is an extraordinary example of civilian courage.”
Watne Frydnes also says he hopes the prize conveys a message for Venezuela’s president Nicolas Maduro and other authoritarian leaders, and he hopes that the prize will inspire people working for democracy all around the world.
