We're wrapping up eight days of island hopping up Queensland's coast, and this final episode might be the most contrasting of the lot. Heron Island is one of the most remote and immersive reef experiences you can have in Australia, the reef is literally metres away from the beach. Then the final island of this trip, Great Keppel Island, the most affordable and accessible island of the whole trip, we jumped on a day tour from Yeppoon on the Capricorn Coast.
Heron Island Resort is literally the only accommodation on Heron Island and was one of the most relaxing and immersive stays we’ve had on the Great Barrier Reef. The marine life is seriously impressive here and the self-guided sunrise snorkel to the HMAS Protector shipwreck was the most epic individual snorkel we've ever done. Rays, sharks, turtles, a shipwreck. Unbelievable.

On the way back up the coast we stopped at Capricorn Caves, it’s one of Queensland's oldest tourist attractions and super popular thing to do. The natural acoustics in there were so impressive, they even have weddings and concerts in there.

Great Keppel Island was our final island on this trip and turned out to be the most beautiful beach of the entire adventure! Great Keppel Island sits just 15km off Yeppoon, has 17 beaches, and is the most accessible and affordable island we visited. We did the Freedom Fast Cats full-day adventure cruise, which includes the ferry crossing, glass-bottom boat tour, snorkelling, boomnetting, and a BBQ lunch. Cocktails not included, but we highly recommend haha.
