In Donkey Kong Bananza, Donkey Kong and a young Pauline (initially introduced as a sentient rock) embark on an adventure into the Earth's core after DK is swept underground during a gold rush on Ingot Isle. They seek to find the Banandium Root, which can grant wishes. Along the way, they encounter Void Company, led by Void Kong, who have stolen Banandium Gems and seek the root for their own purposes.
