Today we honor the legacy of American sculptor Joel Shapiro, who passed away on Saturday. The native New Yorker pioneered a uniquely personal, intimate, human approach to minimalism. His best-known sculptures resemble stick figures in motion, expressing a range of feelings. They introduce new ways of experiencing balance, movement, and gravity.
