Can a commercial building run mostly from solar and battery — and still keep its essential circuits running if the grid fails
In this video, we install and commission a Hinen all-in-one commercial energy storage system on a small business unit.
The system combines an 8kW hybrid inverter, an 8.9kWh battery and an integrated backup gateway in one compact stack.
We look at how the Hinen system works with an east-west solar array, why its four MPPT inputs matter on real commercial roofs, and how the built-in switching and protection simplify the installation. We also explore the Hinen installer app, monitoring, battery expansion and the practical limits of backup power.
The most interesting part of the installation is the custom distribution board. The backed-up circuits had to be separated from high-demand loads such as electric heating and EV charging, so the battery could preserve power for the circuits that keep the business operational — including communications, security, CCTV, lighting and computers.
We also cover off-grid earthing, RCD considerations, CT orientation, load selection, commissioning and the commercial payback case. In summer, the solar and Hinen battery can cover the building’s daytime demand and leave the import meter flatlined. In winter, the grid remains an important safety net.
