In this video, we explore the stunning and atmospheric ruins of Finchale Priory in County Durham. Located right next to our caravan site, this English Heritage site is a hidden gem with a fascinating history dating back to the 12th century.
We take a walk through the ghostly ruins, including the spooky refactory and the beautiful priory church, before heading into Cocken Wood. We were on a mission to find the legendary "Sword in the Tree"—an unusual local mystery where a sword has been completely engulfed by a growing tree!
Whether you're looking for a peaceful walk by the River Wear or a bit of local history, Finchale Priory is well worth a visit.
