Day 8 of wheat harvest is officially in the books, and this one was a wild ride! We battled a dead grain cart, bad batteries, a possible alternator problem, full grain tanks, dusty conditions, and some seriously slow harvesting.
But then we hit a field that completely changed the game… 🌾
We started seeing wheat yields between 150 and nearly 200 bushels per acre — some of the best wheat we've ever harvested! The yields were so good that we could barely keep the combine moving without filling the grain tank.
While sitting in the combine, I started thinking about something that's been on my mind for a long time: How is a farm supposed to survive 20 years from now when equipment, fertilizer, fuel, repairs, and basically everything else keeps getting more expensive?
I share an idea for potentially "future-proofing" the farm by investing a portion of the profits from each crop every year and letting it compound for the next 20 years.
I'm definitely not a financial expert, so I'd love to hear what you think. Would this actually work? Is there a better way to prepare the farm for the next generation?
