President Donald Trump had promised on social media that after his July 4th speech on the National Mall, spectators would witness "what will be the LARGEST FIREWORKS SHOW IN HISTORY, right here in our Nation's Capital."
Thunderstorms delayed the "Salute to America" Independence Day event – Trump's speech began at 11 p.m. ET, an hour later than planned – but the subsequent fireworks display set a Guinness World Record. The record-keeping organization recently deemed the event the largest-ever such display, with 840,537 fireworks.
The display lit up "the National Mall and the Potomac River, and miles around in a 40-minute spectacular," Freedom 250 display.
