Welcome to the Performance Technology Ensemble’s Spring 2026 Concert. Each semester the technology ensemble is made up of students who are interested in writing, producing, and performing their own original music and who have learned how to do so with the aid of modern music technology. Through a combination of music software, midi controllers, synthesizers, and live audio processing, the students of the technology ensemble will perform five original works which were developed this semester.

Anachronism is an ambient interpretive work that explores unique sound scapes. The piece unfolds throughout three distinct acts which follow the story of The Stranger through effect-heavy guitars, live processed flute, electronic manipulation and computer generated foley. We would like to extend a special thanks to our creative writer, Marcus Burton. We enlisted him to write a creative work inspired by our music, and we have been heavily inspired by his work in turn. This performance is inspired by film scoring with fragmented abstract ideas that
push the boundaries of storytelling through sound.

Something New
Bittersweet melodies, melancholic words, this next song was constructed to convey the feelings of longing for something romantically safe, yet not fully trusting what’s in front of you. With Chris on synth, jamie on guitar, Jake on bass, Jacob on percussion, and Sophia on vocals, we present to you the song “something new”

The idea for this piece was to limit the song to 4 audio tracks; The Sample, 1 drum break, vocals and guitar. We wanted to have the the warm analog feel while also having the digital production sounds that we all love The plot is written from the perspective of an artist who sees into the future. He sees himself in the industry and isn’t happy with how it is so he snaps out of the vision and reworks his plan to become better in the present while dealing with all the everyday challenges of life.
Change
The title of our piece is “Change”
Our band includes AJ on vocals, Riley and Palmer on midi controllers, Gracie on flute, and Wiktoria on keys. The lyrics take us through what it’s like to grow up while everything around you is constantly changing, like family, friends, and the world. We are all living, learning, and growing constantly and sometimes time slips away. These lyrics were a vent based on sitting in the feelings that we don’t always want to acknowledge. Our piece was composed by settling on a genre, and the melody came naturally as we worked together, combining our different skills to create something new.
