Freezing Rain and Snow in August??? ROCKPILE TRAIL SmithFamilyTravels 2021-06-12 | Moraine Lake is one of the most beautiful, picturesque places we've ever visited. The blue-green colour of the water with the mountains in the backdrop looks unreal and although we've been here before, these views never get old.We started the hike up to the rockpile trail and then it stared to rain. After about thirty minutes the rain finally stopped so we were able to continue on the rockpile trail.The top of the rockpile is known as the twenty dollar view because this scenery was on the back of the Canadian twenty dollar bill in the 1970's.Moraine Lake is situated at an elevation of over 1800 meters in what is called the Valley of the Ten Peaks in Banff National Park and the views from here are breathtaking.

The hike to the beach takes about 30 minutes from the parking lot and we visited on a rainy day, which made the hike a little more challenging, but it was still worth it.

The Niagara Falls is much smaller than the falls in Ontario, but it was a beautiful sight nonetheless. Ed Nixon trail is in Langford, BC and it was close to our Airbnb so we spent a couple of hours there, enjoying the trail that leads to Langford Lake. Victorias Chinatown | Vancouver Island SmithFamilyTravels 2023-03-25 | Victoria on Vancouver Island is home to the oldest Chinatown area in Canada and the second oldest in North America. The history and charm shine through as you walk through the Gate of Harmonious Interest and explore the narrow alleyways. Another claim to fame is Fan Tan Alley, the narrowest street in Canada.We went to a pizza place called, The Brickyard which had THE BEST pizza we've had in a long time! At the end of the day, we checked into our Airbnb in Langford, just outside of Victoria, where we could see Langford Lake.
VISITING VICTORIA, BC | Scenic Bike Ride around the city. SmithFamilyTravels 2023-02-04 | August 2021We took a scenic bike ride to check out the many sites that Victoria, BC has to offer. Our bike reservations included a tour guide from the Pedaler company, which is located at the inner harbour, in downtown Victoria. The guide was fantastic and very knowledgable about the history of the city. We stop by the Parliament building, Fen Tang Alley, and Fisherman's Wharf, and many more places. After the bike tour, we went back to our Airbnb, took a nap and went back out to enjoy the city on foot. We saw the beautiful Parliament building, strolled along the harbour, visited the Royal BC museum and all of the totem poles in Thunderbird park. THE BEAUTY OF OLD QUEBEC | Must-See Sights of Old Quebec City SmithFamilyTravels 2021-09-21 | We spent a day strolling through the streets of Old Quebec on a walking tour that we booked with Sam from www.afreetourofquebec.com and had a wonderful day in the most European city in North America.The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the city and provided us with a lot of highlights that we may have missed if we were walking around the city alone. -Old Quebec is a Unesco world heritage site and is the best place to stroll in the city. Visit Lower Town and Upper Town (be careful on the 'breakneck steps') and check out the shops, churches and old fortified wall. -Take a walk along Dufferin Terrace that's built along the port, enjoy the buskers performances and take pics in front of Chateau Frontenac, the luxurious hotel that overlooks the St. Lawrence river.-While you're in Petit Champlain, be sure to check out the Place Royale, the charming square where you'll feel like you are back in time.

Day Trip to Bruce Peninsula National Park SmithFamilyTravels 2021-08-14 | We took a day trip to two sites within Bruce Peninsula National Park. Halfway Log Dump is a pebbly beach area with crystal blue waters the provide beautiful views of the Georgian bay. You can enjoy your time strolling along the shore and then take a hike towards the rocky escarpment which is quite the workout!It is important to note that you have to book your parking pass online or over the phone before arriving at the park. Parking is $7.90/adult, $16/family and youth are free. The parking pass will allow you to access Halfway Log Dump and Singing Sands beach. You have to drive and park at each place, so you'll need to divide your time so that you can get a parking spot in each area.Singing sands beach is an area where you can set up a canopy and bbq for the day. The water is very shallow so it's perfect for kids. There are campgrounds around here so that you can spend more time and explore the many sites of the park.

There are three suspension bridges, two of which are accessible for those with limited mobility and one with that's 60 meters high. BOW RIVER FALLS & FAIRVIEW LOOKOUT | Hiking trails in Banff, Alberta, CANADA SmithFamilyTravels 2021-04-25 | August 2020Bow River Falls is located in Banff National park in Alberta, Canada and the trail that leads to the falls will first bring you to beautiful Bow River where we took our time to enjoy the stunning turquoise water while Keenan tried to make friends with the birds along its banks.The path along the river leads to the pedestrian walkway where we took in the view of the mountains from that vantage point.Downtown Banff is a great place to check out quaint little shops, get a bite to eat or do some people watching while enjoying the mountain views. Fairview Lookout is a 2.3 km. loop in a densely forested area on a hiking trail in Lake Louise. All Day Hiking on Vancouver Island | Seal Bay Nature Park, Nymph Park & Paradise Meadows SmithFamilyTravels 2021-02-21 | July 2020Our last day on Vancouver Island was spent enjoying three of the many trails of this beautiful place. Seal Bay Nature Park in Comox Valley has a pretty easy hiking trail to the pebble beach where you can see seals and mountains in the distance. We had our packed lunch on one of the logs and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the flowing water.Paradise Meadows in Strathcona Provinical Park has a 2km boardwalk and then hard-packed gravel which makes this section of the park wheelchair accessible. 2020 Recap | A Travel Year in Review SmithFamilyTravels 2021-01-03 | 2020 was a year like no other for the entire world. From masks to physical distancing to lockdowns, this was a year that we all we never forget. We started the year like we always do, trying to get away to Florida in January to get out of the cold. Then we started to plan our travels for the year, but little did we know that due to the state of the world, travel would change drastically in a very short time. We hunkered down for a few months, waiting to see what was going to happen, but we realized that the situation wasn't getting better any time soon overseas, so we decided to explore closer to home. The mountains, hiking trails and waterfalls of the West Coast of Canada was just what we needed during this time. It was quiet, laid-back and filled with the sounds of nature. SmithFamilyTravels 2020-10-25 | Oia is known for its beautiful landscape but it's also known for large crowds of tourists so it was wonderful for us to enjoy this town early in the morning in peace and quiet.The town of Fira is a short drive away and is the capital city of Santorini. It's a great place to spend the day strolling along the cobblestone streets and ending the day high up in the hills as the sun sets.

East Coast of Canada Mini-Roadtrip | 4 Days in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island SmithFamilyTravels 2020-08-23 | In August 2019, we took a four day trip to some of the Eastern provinces of Canada and had a fantastic time exploring the great outdoors along the coast.We visited: Peggy's Cove located in Nova Scotia, famous for Peggy's Point Lighthouse, the most photographed lighthouse in Canada. We then drove a short distance to the SwissAir Memiorial site which commemorates the 1998 crash of SwissAir flight III which crashed on these shores.The next day we drove to Prince Edward Island via Confederation Bridge which is the longest bridge in Canada. We spent the day in Charlottown, the capital city and visited Saint Dunstan's Cathedral, checked out an art gallery on George Street and took some pics in front of the Anne of Green Gables store (PEI's most famous redhead). Then we walked through the downtown open air market and check out the handicrafts. We then took a stroll down to Peak's Wharf where you can check out the sailing boats and then get some ice cream at Cow's ice cream shop.The next day we visited Hopewell Rocks, located in New Brunswick. Twice a day at low tide, you can walk the ocean floor and admire the flower pot rocks that have been formed over thousands of years of erosion.We also checked out the tidal bore, located in Moncton, New Brunswick where twice a day you can watch the muddy tide roll in and even get a look at someone surfing the wave on the Peticodiac river.If you love lobster, you'll love visiting Shediac, considered the lobster capital of the world!If you haven't subscribed yet, please do!Follow us on Instagram:instagram.com/smithfamilytravels/?hl=en

Exploring Saint Stephens Basilica & the Jewish Quarters | Budapest SmithFamilyTravels 2020-05-30 | Budapest is a city rich with history and we enjoyed exploring and learning more about this place. Our apartment was just a few minutes walk to the beautiful St. Stephen's basilica so we made that our first stop and then we made our way towards the Jewish quarters. Dohany Street Synagogue is the largest in Europe and is steeped in history which includes providing refuge to 20,000 Jews during World War II. Venice Vlog | Our last Day in the Floating City SmithFamilyTravels 2020-05-06 | May 2019Our last day in Venice, Italy was a rainy one but that didn't stop us from taking one final stroll along its banks. The fashion district is a great place to take a walk and window shop and our daughter, Kanah loved it, even in the rain. Visiting the Peggy Guggenheim museum is a modern museum that's a great sight to check out when visiting Venice. Art work from Salvador Dali and Picasso hang on its walls from Peggy Guggenheim's private collection. From Malta to Venice | Blue Grotto Cave Tour & Flight to Venice SmithFamilyTravels 2020-03-18 | We travelled to Malta in May 2019 and spent a few days enjoying this beautiful island. The people, food and sites are so worth the trip to this small island where the pace of life is a lot slower than what we're used to in Canada, and we enjoyed every moment of it.We then headed on a short flight to Venice where it would be anything but slow-paced! The throngs of tourists here make it difficult to walk around but it's still an enjoyable place to visit. How to Make your own Hand Sanitizer at Home SmithFamilyTravels 2020-03-16 | Making your own hand sanitizer is quick and easy and takes only a few ingredients that you probably already have in your cupboard. This is a great alternative to store-bought sanitizer, especially because it's impossible to find during the coronavirus covid-19 pandemic that we are all experiencing right now. We are all worried but we can also practice good hand washing techniques (or use hand sanitizer when running water and soap is not available), keep our hands away from our face and stay away from the elderly or those with compromised immune systems. Together we can get through this. We always have Isopropyl alcohol handy to clean cuts Aloe vera gel for our hair (some people use it for sunburn relief)Tea tree oil is a great antisepticLavender is calming (which we need right now) and just smells good!
Maltas Three Cities Cruise | Malta Travel Vlog SmithFamilyTravels 2020-02-16 | Malta is well-known for the ancient three cities that surround it; Birgu (Vittoriosa), Bormla (Cospicua) and Isla (Senglea). Taking a mini cruise along the coast provides you with wonderful views of the old fortifications that surround these cities and are now the backdrops to many Hollywood movies. Valletta is the capital city of Malta and maintains its medieval architecture which makes you feel like you're back in time when wandering through its cobblestone streets.
