Here's another rare example of the programming of WCFC Channel 38 - an (incomplete) edition of a discussion show in a telethon format, Celebration, about the "issue" of Halloween. Host of this pre-recorded program (which, nonetheless, has a studio audience) is Jim Boyer, and his guests are Carol Carmichael, Eric Pement of Jesus People, and Prayer Network Coordinator Sue Pedersen.

(previous to this we saw some additional anti-Halloween programming, albeit in a more entertaining "kooky" fashion, seen here: youtu.be/4f-7B1jPpyI and here: youtu.be/4qsOXz_HCr8)

Recording comes in midway through segment with phone numbers rotating through lower third; Carol showing Halloween books (including "The Sorcerer's Apprentice") and Duracell ad in demonstration of how occult has hold over culture; Jim reading an article from The Evangel (connected with Jimmy Swaggart), later citing statistics of over 400 covens of nearly 6,000 witches in North America in discussion on witchcraft; Carol speaks of her working with children who are largely unaware of scriptures as they take in Halloween rituals; Eric insists human sacrifice is "at the extreme end," and that sin is the ultimate rebellion, and Carol gives her perspective on human sacrifice, then brings up the Spiritual Counterfeit Project out of Berkeley, CA which exposes false gods; discussion on confusion between cults and occult; then Jim introduces this night's audience, from Bethel Children's Church (led by pastor Rev. Edgar Jackson and assistant pastor Dolores Field), and tells viewers where to send name, address and phone to be part of audience

Commercials for:

Farmer's Estate Planning Seminars (voiceover sounds a bit like Les Marshak) (production music during this segment had to be partially muted - "Western Soliloquy" heard here: youtu.be/qsHVQ8P0H4g)

Promo for The Weekend Gardener (with Jim Bennett)

The next segment, with Jim announcing his show celebrating over the show's "defeat" of Halloween, with an appearance from Sue next to phone banks; leading to "Question Line" of queries about whether Christians can get a curse, what brought Carol to the Lord, one for Eric about how to get Satanic books off school library shelves, the subject of Casper the Friendly Ghost, plus one question Sue poses about to what extent churches should take a stand against Halloween rituals and celebrations (and then afterwards, prepare for Thanksgiving), and how she and her husband deal with trick-or-treaters; after which, Jim thanks his guests and closes this edition

Ending credits (with production music that had to be muted - "Ladies 'n' Lace" - heard here: youtu.be/XGOMaSyylJM)

About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:

The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: tapes@fuzzy.tv Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation.
