On March 23rd, 1994, Wayne Gretzky proved he was indeed the great one. The hockey star scored his 802nd NHL goal, surpassing Gordie Howe. He already owned the NHL record for assists and points. After the game, Gretzky reflected on what he had accomplished.

Gretzky: “Somebody's gonna have to play 16 years of 50 goals a year. And that may happen. I think records are made to be broken. I think people like [Teemu] Selänne and [Sergei] Fedorov, and [Eric] Lindros, if he stays healthy, those three guys have a strong chance at it. But it’s a lot of goals and, like I said, I'm not
kidding when I said I've played a lot of good players. You gotta play good people to be able to do it.”

Update: Gretzky finished his NHL career with 894 goals and 2,857 points—records that have yet to be approached.
