I found myself wanting to write another Minecraft song a few weeks ago. So I did! I didn’t have any intentions on uploading it, but it wasn’t until I scheduled my absolutely
hilarious and definitely not overstayed tradition of an April Fools’ video that I realized how long it’d been since I’d done anything here. I was like, WHAT!!! The pale gardens were a lifetime ago, in Thaetaa years.
Not that I’ve been completely stagnant. In the past few months I’ve produced more than I ever have, and I’ve been really enjoying working on things again! I’ve improved so much in just the past year. The realest problem— I just don’t write very many singles anymore 😭 most of my stuff’s part of an album, or something, then that album gets bigger and more ambitious, and that’s that. I suppose since I stopped maintaining a schedule for releasing things I stopped thinking about releasing at all! It’s been on my mind a lot recently though. I won’t hold the “pressure” of more uploads over you or me, but it’s definitely something I’d love to come back to!
And what better time to release something than alongside the cinematic masterpiece that is A Minecraft Movie. Wow. I’m in awe, really. ‘Chicken Jockey!’ has completely overwritten all of my vocabulary. It’s all I can say. This movie has ruined me and it’s not even out yet. Of course I will be seeing it opening day, which is today!

With this song, I didn’t want to necessarily just write about something already in the game. What I actually wanted was something to listen to while I build this area of my world, which I’m calling the Marble Gardens. I love marble, and I love gardens, so I’m building.. the Marble Gardens. Incredible. It’s essentially this big ruins site with a bunch of temple and statue builds that I then weather and overtake with nature.
Unfortunately marble isn’t actually in the game. I was using a lot of Quartz for a while, but I’ve begun to really like this Green Terracotta - Cut Sandstone - Mud Bricks combo, and I’ve started spreading this motif all throughout.
At first I had something much longer planned, but after experimenting a little I liked the pacing I ended up with here. After that I figured it’d be fun to write it as though it were a music disc for the area.
This song’s a little bit of a retake of one of my older discs, ‘Close,’ but it’s grown beyond that I feel. There’s still a part from Close I left in this mix just for fun, nearing the middle.
Maybe this song’s biggest inspiration, outside of my own Minecraft world, is actually the in..teresting ‘Calm4’ by Notch himself. I think about it a lot. It’s the most Minecraft thing I’ve ever heard despite not really ever being a part of the game’s soundtrack. There’s something ridiculous about it that I love and I wanted to capture a small part of its essence here.

I also did take the name ‘Marble Gardens’ from Sonic 3. It’s one of my favorite zones. I hate those giant spike ball things though. I can never see them in time. Ridiculous.
