In this video, I’m exploring a reveal technique to create a series of expressive faces. This project began as a Surface Design Association prompt (to create something resembling myself), and it has evolved into a fascinating tactile experiment.
I am a member of the Surface Design Association. The prompt came in the member newsletter. surfacedesign.org
The Process:
I start by drawing and painting watercolor faces on cardstock. I then stitch a coffee filter over the top, completely obscuring the work. Next, I ripped through the coffee filter to reveal the face beneath.
I’m currently at a crossroads with these pieces. Should these faces become mixed media dolls, should I make a little book, or should they be layered into a large-scale collage/assemblage piece? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
Materials Used:
Watercolor paper
watercolor paint
Acrylic paint( White)
Coffee filters (for the overlay)
Hand-stitching and embroidery floss
blakc pen
Sew Easy Stitch tool( We R Memory Keepers) and an awl to punch holes in the paper
Coffee
