SOOOO, I saw this meme and I was like "holy cow, I should make about Moth and Birch!!"
so I did.
Backstory:
Mothstar is the leader of Summerclan years before Mothmask was born. She was an energetic, young, caring and sweet cat who loved each clanmate like a mother. Mothstar couldn't have kids, so she adopted everyone instead.
Her deputy, and secret girlfriend, Birchstrike is more a reserved cat, quiet, don't like to bring attention and serious. She was a loner before joining the clan.
One day, the Summerclan's river dried and prey became scarce. It was a long period of hungerness and starvation, where Mothstar saw her clanmates die daily due to the lack of food. After losing her sister, Mothstar I vowed she wouldn't lose any more cat, even if it costs all of her lives.
So, she hunted and gave every prey she caught to her clanmates. She starved through her 9 lives in order everyone would be fed.
The only one who knew about it was Birchstrike, who tried to stop Mothstar but in vain.
The day the river came back, as well as the prey, Birchstrike went to hunt with the patrols and promised to bring the juiciest a biggest fish to Mothstar. However, when she got back, Mothstar has already lost her last life.
Devastated, Birchstrike became the leader, but refused to receive her 9 lives. For her, it wasn't right she received 9 lives to waste on herself, while Mothstar sacrificed every single one of them feeding the clan.
This became a tradition to Summerclan, where leaders don't receive the 9 lives in honor of Mothstar.
However... time goes by and Mothstar's story became blurry and untruth. Cats would use it as a justify for their beliefs, such as "She-cats can't be leaders, because it would bring hungerness and destruction" and "She-cats should be the last to eat, as a way to honor Mothstar's sacrifice". Lastly, they believed Mothstar asked as a dying wish to her children become the next leaders of Summerclan. However, this was a lie, since Mothstar didn't have any children. Instead, her nephew rose the power after Birchstar's death and installed a "monarchy".
