Did you know that the water you drink today could be millions of years old? It sounds pretty wild, but it is true! This is because all of the water that the planet Earth uses has been around since the beginning of time. All of this is possible because of the water cycle, which we are going to learn more about today in this educational, interactive video for kids.

Up first is evaporation. Evaporation occurs when the sun heats up the water in oceans, lakes, rivers, and other water bodies. Because of the heat, the water changes from a liquid to a gas. This moisture is then evaporated into the air. If you have ever left a water bottle outside on a hot day, you have probably seen the water inside evaporate over time!

Similar to evaporation is transpiration, which is the process by which plants lose water in the form of water vapor. Transpiration releases water vapor from plants back into the air. This happens after water is absorbed through a plant’s roots and then travels through the rest of the plant to reach its leaves. It is a continuous process as plants grow.
