I have used plastic wrap to create a similar effect using watercolors. and I know that it can be used with alcohol inks as well. But I'm so happy to discover that it works with acrylics as well! This opens up worlds of possibilities because I can use this technique on LARGER surfaces - which is much more difficult with watercolors and alcohol inks. This works as a stand-alone abstract piece, but could also be used as a backdrop or underpainting for more detailed work.
Colors used:
Golden Fluid Acrylics: Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold; Titanium Buff; Ultramarine Blue; Payne's Grey & Iridescent Gold Fine
Tri-Art Golden Orange
I applied a layer of water to my pre-gesso'd canvas, blended in the colors and tilted to add motion. While it was still wet, I placed the shrink wrap that the canvas came in on top and allowed it to dry overnight. The process is so simple ANYONE could do this!

I 'rescue' any paint that gets spun or tilted off by scraping it off of the table, straining it and saving it to use as a base coat for future pours. Very little waste!
