The International Space Station is receiving a new commander on Monday, Jan. 12, 2026. Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Kud-Sverchkov is taking over from NASA astronaut Mike Fincke in a change of command ceremony slated to begin at 2:35 p.m. EST (1935 UTC).
NASA, in consultation with its International partners, decided on Thursday, Jan. 8, to bring home the four members of the SpaceX Crew-11 mission a little more than a month earlier than originally planned. The medical evacuation was deemed necessary based on what NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman called a “serious medical condition” that affected one of the crew members ahead of a planned spacewalk.
Crew-11 is set to undock from the ISS on Wednesday, Jan. 14 with a splashdown off the coast of California estimated for 3:40 a.m. EST (0840 UTC) on Jan. 15.
