A public inquiry into the death of novichok victim Dawn Sturgess continues today.

The 44-year-old died in 2018 after being caught in the "crossfire of an illegal and outrageous international assassination attempt", the inquiry into her poisoning has heard.

Sturgess passed away at Salisbury District Hospital on 8 July 2018, after being exposed to the nerve agent via a discarded counterfeit perfume bottle. She "unwittingly applied" the nerve agent to her skin following the discovery of the container in Amesbury, Wiltshire, Andrew O'Connor KC told the hearing.

It was found by her partner Charlie Rowley, who became seriously ill but survived. Police believe it had been used by Russian intelligence operatives to smuggle the nerve agent into the country.

Witnesses expected today include her mother and a commander from the Met’s anti-terror unit
