Las Vegas’ iconic Tropicana hotel went out with a bang.
The Tropicana Las Vegas Resort was demolished early Wednesday in a spectacular display of fireworks and drones. After 67 years on the Strip, the classic hotel was torn down to make way for a new $1.5 billion baseball stadium for the Athletics franchise’s relocation from Oakland to Las Vegas.
Around 2,200 pounds of explosives were used to bring down the Tropicana, with the towers collapsing just 22 seconds after the implosion button was pressed. Closing its doors in April, the Tropicana was the third-oldest casino on the Strip, marking the end of an era after nearly seven decades.
