Wat Mahathat is centrally located in the Ayutthaya Historical Park. It contained (contains?) relics of the Buddha. The previously huge main prang lies in ruins, but the compound abounds with smaller prangs and chedis. A Buddha Head entwined in a tree trunk, is arguably the most photographed item in all of Ayutthaya.
