This video takes you through the simplest of provisional cast-ons. All you need is some waste yarn and your knitting needles. This method allows you to start knitting in a way that allows you to go back and add an edging later. It is used in a number of cowls in our new ebook, Something New to Learn About Helical Knitting.

You can find the eBook at purlescence.com/Brochure/Patterns/Arnall-Culliford-Knitwear/helical-knitting

For the crochet provisional cast on, which unzips more easily than this waste yarn method, please see our video tutorial: youtu.be/FKfXOroCrqE
