President Joe Biden says at the Economic Club of Washington that the Federal Reserve's interest rate cut this week "isn’t a declaration of victory" but "a declaration of progress, to signal we’ve entered a new phase of our economy and our recovery.”
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) introduces a bill to fund the federal government if the House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is unable to come up with a version that can pass the House. The deadline to get a new spending law in place to avoid a shutdown is 12 days away.
The Senate passes a $2.9 billion supplemental spending bill for veterans' benefits. The House already passed it, so that will be signed into law.
The White House responds to the news from U.S. intelligence that Iran hacked the Donald Trump presidential campaign and sent stolen material to people associated with the then-Joe Biden reelection campaign.
