Did you know that using TOO MUCH water in your washing machine is actually LESS effective at cleaning your laundry? It all comes down to the 4 factors of cleaning--time, temperature, chemical action, and mechanical action. All four factors are necessary, and if one is decreased, one or more of the other factors must INCREASE to compensate.
Adding more water decreases friction, which is the "mechanical action" in this case. To compensate for the loss of mechanical action, most people who use the "deep fill" option will add more detergent (the "chemical action") without realizing that decreasing the amount of water would have the same effect!
