The famed celebrity defense attorney in the Scopes trial, Clarence Darrow was lead attorney in the defense of John Scopes in his trial. It's a misnomer to call Darrow the defense attorney, though, because the aim was to have John Scopes convicted. Much of the supposedly principled stand for science and academic freedom was mainly histrionics and deflection.
