Follow us on a tour of the main sites around Euro 2012 from where to buy your kit, to the fanzone and the stadium.
Euro 2012, easily the biggest sporting event ever to take place in Poland, begins in Warsaw on June 8 and joins the list of notable moments in the turbulent history of this amazing city.
While most well-known for more unhappier events -- namely its destruction at the hands of the Nazis during World War II and the subsequent 44 years of communism that followed -- Warsaw has changed by leaps and bounds since the iron curtain was removed in 1989, and we might even call it cosmopolitan considering the growing skyline and modern amenities found here now.
Much of the city's growth can be credited to the tournament as well. After five years of preparation, Warsaw now boasts a brand new stadium, new roads, a new railway line to and from the airport and a much improved tourist infrastructure (although projects like a new east-west metro line among others are a sign that the rebuilding of Warsaw and Poland is still a work in progress). There's little doubt that the 4 weeks of the tournament will test the city to the maximum. But fear not. The locals have handled a lot more than a football tournament and smiled, danced and laughed on through. Expect this same spirit combined with the natural hospitality of the Polish people to carry the day admirably.
For those of you looking to get the most out of the city (in addition to all aspects of the football tournament) we have produced a mini-guide to the city with the most important, accurate and independently written information available. Remember nobody knows a city like the locals and that's exactly what we are. This guide has been produced in a print format; there's an online version (inyourpocket.com/poland/EURO-2012-Warsaw-English) that contains a downloadable PDF which can be viewed on your tablet; and an excellent application for your iPhone (itunes.apple.com/gb/app/iyp-guides/id447075628?mt=8). And this is just a special supplement to our regular 132-page guide available in English from your hotel concierge, online at warsaw.inyourpocket.com or in a free to download PDF.
