ALERT:Check Youtube Settings HD Officials warn of more collapses at US nuclear site — “High spikes” in radiation levels recorded — Expert: Plutonium could go airborne — Major concern over radioactive releases — Gov’t delays revealing data to public. Hanford official: Tunnel could collapse again — Less than a week after a tunnel collapse at Hanford’s PUREX site, Senator Cantwell visited the nuclear site Saturday, concerned about the recent collapse and the possibility of more. “There is still a potential that we could have an additional collapse of that tunnel,” said Doug Shoop, manager at the Department of Energy Richland Operations Office. enenews.com/alert-officials-warn-of-more-collapses-at-us-nuclear-site-high-spikes-in-radiation-levels-recorded-expert-plutonium-could-go-airborne-major-concern-over-radioactive-releases-govt-d

A cold front is forecast to stretch from the Northeast to the Carolinas to the Southern Plains at the start of the period. Multiple low-pressure systems are forecast to develop along the western end of the front and move toward the Mid-Atlantic throughout the early half of next week.

Heavy rain across portions of the Northeast, Sat, Aug 5.
Heavy rain across portions of the Central Plains, the Middle Mississippi Valley, the Lower Mississippi Valley, and the Southern Plains, Sun, Aug 6.
Heavy rain across portions of the Central and Southern Rockies, Tue, Aug 8.
Heavy rain across portions of the Mid-Atlantic, the Central Appalachians, and the Northeast, Mon-Tue, Aug 7-Aug 8.
Heavy rain across portions of the Lower Mississippi Valley the Southern Plains, the Middle Mississippi Valley, Mon-Tue, Aug 7-Aug 8.
Heavy rain across portions of the Southeast, Tue, Aug 8.
Much above normal temperatures across portions of the Pacific Northwest, the Northern Rockies, and the Northern Great Basin, Sat-Sun, Aug 5-Aug 6.
Much above normal temperatures across portions of the Pacific Northwest and the Northern Rockies, Mon-Tue, Aug 7-Aug 9.
Flooding occurring or imminent across portions of the Middle Mississippi Valley, the Great Lakes, and the Upper Mississippi Valley.
Heavy rain across portions of the Central Plains, the Middle Mississippi Valley, the Lower Mississippi Valley, and the Southern Plains, Thu-Sat, Aug 10-Aug 12. Heavy rain across portions of mainland Alaska, Tue, Aug 8. Moderate risk of much above normal temperatures for portions of the Northern Great Basin, Thu-Sat, Aug 10-Aug 12.
Severe Drought across the Central Plains, the Northern Plains, Hawaii, the Middle Mississippi Valley, California, the Southern Plains, and the Southwest. Multiple shortwaves are forecast to move across the Great Plains, interacting with the western end of the front. Surface low-pressure is forecast to move rapidly from southern Great Plains to the Ohio Valley, spreading heavy rains over the Plains on Aug 6, before moving toward the Ohio Valley on Aug 7-8. Isolated areas of heavy rain are likely from the Central Appalachians to the Northeast on Aug 7 and early into Aug 8, with the signal then settling southward to the Carolinas on Aug 8 as the cold front slowly settles southward again. There is a low confidence threat of isolated severe weather on Sun, Aug 6 into Aug 7 from the Mississippi Valley to the Ohio Valley as the low-pressure system transits that region.

Another shortwave is forecast to move across the Central Rockies, again exciting convection and rainfall over the Southern and Central Plains, as well as potentially some heavy rains over the Central Rockies in Colorado and northern New Mexico. Isolated severe weather is possible near whatever remains of a dry line over the Southern Plains. Model agreement in the signal for heavy rains breaks down during Aug 9, the precipitation toward the Tennessee Valley while models keep the precipitation over the Great Plains. Flooding could again be a concern over the Southern Great Plains.

Temperatures are likely to be 8-14 degrees above normal. The signal shrinks in coverage as the days progress due to the multiple troughs forecast to move across the Great Basin. North of those troughs, dry thunderstorm activity is likely over the Pacific Northwest.

Rain events have raised streams and rivers, and moistened soils in Wisconsin and Illinois. Flooding is forecast in Northern Illinois, and could spread to southern Wisconsin.
