How long can a fact last?

You've got me thinking and smiling
You've got racking my brain
Interrogating my memory
You don't need to tell me again

My views are not inconsistent
Relying on certitude
You make me rethink my method
I just hope you don't think I'm rude.

Belief is not a substitute for the facts
Despite what you may be led to believe.
Instinctively, the heart leads you to react
But a message from the gut is quick to deceive

How long can a fact last?

Five years elapsed
And half my expertise collapsed
l wasn't able to react
But my emotions are intact now!

Another dawn gives us
Unvarnished hope
And what was true today
Could make us look like fools tomorrow

You tell me:
Rethink my education
But it's not in my field of view
And if I don't get the update
What do you expect me to do?

Involved in a conversation
With myself and my former views
Upgrading all my opinions
The only certain aspect is you.
