SuperJet Spade | Warlord - Rainstorm (NEC PC-98 YM2203/OPN Port) @SuperJet_Spade | Uploaded March 2021 | Updated October 2024, 7 hours ago.
This is something I did last month. A single YM2203/OPN port of Warlord's 2007 song Rainstorm. All FM patches used are the courtesy of the original composer, and was done in BambooTracker with YM2203 limitations.
This is one of many songs that was included with TFM Music Maker. A lot of you may have thought of TFM MM as a Sega Genesis tracker, but that wasn't what the program was targeting. TFM stands for "TurboSound FM," which is what TFM MM was originally targeting. This was a third party expansion card for the ZX Spectrum that features two YM2203 chips, and this came out years and years after the ZX Spectrum was discontinued. The YM2203 has 3 FM channels and 3 SSG channels, so the expansion card featured 12 total channels set in a hard pan stereo configuration (the YM2203 itself is mono). TFM MM didn't support the SSG channels, so I believe that might be why many users thought it was a limited Sega Genesis tracker years ago. This was what led to wonder what a version of the song would sound like on a single YM2203 last month. Channels 1 to 3 from the original were all placed in the SSG part, whereas the FM part plays what was originally channels 4 to 6 in the original (which has the bass and leads).
Original song by: Warlord. Thanks for watching.
