Do to a request, I finally got around to making a Baruuk video demoing some of what you can do with him.
So this is actually what I typically run for all things since it has a nice balance of survival, Crowd Control and Damage. Baruuk's Ex weapon isn't the strongest damage wise, but it is arguably one of the quickest with a 20m infinite punch through wave attack and can also disarm enemies with the slide attack and briefly suspend them into the air. That's not something to overlook.
The way I look at Baruuk is using his kit to alternate between controlling enemies and beating them down. It almost feels like at times the best thing to do is just to hang back and let enemies try to attack you as they damage your health and generate energy, thanks to Rage, and decresing Restraint from using his 1-3. Once you have a suitable amount of Restraint removed, activating and even staying in Serene Storm mode becomes possible with proper use of his 1-3. Being constantly shot at with bullets/lasers using his 1 is one of the fastest ways, utilizing his 2 on large crowds the second, and the constant tagging of his 3 on enemies provides a stable reduction as well. He's a pretty quick frame, which is also great since if you add a decent amount of Sprint speed, you can use single fist strikes to quickly wipe lesser enemies away quicker than any other method.
I'm using Ankyros Prime simply because I enjoy fist based weapons and how satisfying it is to back fist enemies into submission and how quickly ground finishers allow for quick and easy dispatching of even some of the heavily armored enemies, especially after they've been tagged up with status effects and had a portion/all their armor removed. You can use whatever melee you like, but fists suit him thematically imo.
I use a weapon like Staticor to both inflict status effects and strip armored rapidly, allowing for the amplified damage of both my fist attacks to do significantly more damage. Viral is a great element for halving enemy health, so even with the low status chance, it's a great way to cause a lot of damage to high er level enemies, since you cut their total health in half.
One thing to note is that Proton Snap actually adds a flat status chance to melee, so it makes it a lot easier to inflict status effects with any kind of melee weapon, including Ex ones, by simply latching on to a wall for 2 seconds. Since Primary/Secondary weapons and Abilities can still be used while doing this, Wall latching for the boost in status chance and additional damage is something you may want to consider making a routine habit, especially since you also gain additional damage reduction on top of what you already get from this build and Baruuk's abilities.
I use single fist strikes a lot in the vid instead of spamming attack when using Serene Storm to show the damage you can do. With practice however, due to the high Sprint speed, if you use Hold to Sprint you can actually run around using single fist strikes without losing too much momentum (attacking unfortunately stops you from Sprinting unlike Excalibur, so this was a method I came up with to have the same kind of mobility). With practice, you can run around killing enemies this way quick that most other frames can.
Standing in one spot and spamming attack is an option as well, just less fun imo.
Play smart and you can do just fine with him.
