[Synopsis]
In this video, I test fly the J-15T carrier fighter. This is a new aircraft which was released after the 9th wave update. I just got this aircraft, so I don't have all the upgrades for it. The base model comes with regular bombs, air to ground rockets, 2 PL-12A ARH missiles, and 2 PL-8B IRCCM missiles.
The J-15T has a lot of new features, like a AESA radar, a wide array of air to ground weapons, like anti-ship radar guided missiles, TV guided missiles, guided bombs, laser guided bombs, rockets, and unguided bombs. It can carry about 10 PL-12A ARH missiles, and 4 PL-8B IRCCM missiles, so it can carry a lot of air to air missiles. It has about 48 countermeasures, which I think is a bit low. Gaijin didn't add the ECM pod for this aircraft, which is a bummer.
The AESA(Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar allows you to use TWS(Track While Scan) radar at any range, it works well at 10 kilometers or less. The same can't be said about mechanical radars which doesn't update as fast as a AESA radar. The advantage of using TWS radar is that it doesn't alert enemy aircraft when using this type of lock. Using STT(Single Target Tracking) radar will alert enemy aircraft.
This aircraft is based on the Su-33, and it looks very much like a Su-33. China got a Su-33 prototype in 2001 from Ukraine, and the frame of the J-15T is based on the T-10K-3. The materials, engine, avionics, and radar are indigenous. The J-15T uses a lot of composite materials which makes it lighter than the Su-33, just like the J-11B used the Su-27 frame but all the other parts were also indigenous.
The J-15T has a top speed of Mach 2.4, and its flight performance is similar to a J-11B. The J-15T is a large aircraft, like flankers are. It is a pretty good 4.5 generation multi role naval fighter. It can engage enemy fighters, and it can also conduct strike missions on land or sea.
