The War of the Austrian Succession, like many others, began because of the Habsburg succession crisis. The failed War of the Spanish Succession had not yet had time to end when the threat of losing the throne in Austria appeared. The only way out was to recognize the eldest daughter of the last Holy Roman Emperor, Maria Theresa, as the legitimate ruler. However, this time family ties got in the way, and the War of the Austrian Succession broke out.

Austria's main opponents in the war were Prussia and the Electorate of Germany, which also had claims to the imperial throne. However, other European states joined the conflict, and the war lasted on three continents. In this video, we will delve into the course of events of the War of the Austrian Succession and find out under what conditions Maria Theresa was nevertheless recognized as the legitimate empress.
