This November 8, 1961 report from David Brinkley's Journal invites Marvin Glass, legendary toy designer behind Mr. Machine, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, Lite Brite and Operation, to exhibit his latest creations.
What Glass may have intended to be an advertisement for the upcoming holiday season turned into a critique on the noise and destruction caused by a dance party-turned warzone sequence, starring a room full of toys such as Robot Commando and Kissy, "the doll that kisses you back". David Brinkley shows no shame in his aversion for the creatures, noting that they are "driven not by the human spirit that has lived and grown for a half million years, but by flashlight batteries".
One can only imagine Brinkley's reaction to a Furby.
