In videogames, the term "autoattacking" is used for the type of low-effort gameplay that can be used to defeat easy battles and conserves resources, both in-game resources and your own mental resources. It's not really even a tactic, so much as an intentional lack of a tactic. And yet, in Tabletop RPGs it can be normal for some players to engage in autoattack style gameplay unironically and even sometimes when the going gets tough. Often this can be paired with games that allow out of combat character optimization to the point where an autoattack (or perhaps the magical equivalent of always just casting a go-to spell that ends the encounter) is capable of winning even the toughest encounters. But this can lead some players to have less fun (while others enjoy an autoattack win) and can lead to losses or frustration in games like Pathfinder 2e where you can't optimize your autoattack to beat the difficult encounters. Join us today as we provide in-depth tips for how to vary up your gameplay and outperform autoattack both for your fun and success rate!
