Jorge Fontes, an Azorean scientist we met on OceanXplorer, has developed a non-invasive technique with lassos to tag blue sharks - one of the most-fished sharks in the world. He partnered with Fred Buyle, who was the first to successfully “lasso” a shark with this method. The long-term goal is to create dynamic (moving) marine protected areas to protect this "most fished" species of shark.
