Wang Yi, China’s Foreign Minister, met with his Indonesian counterpart Sugiono in Jakarta on Friday to boost cooperation in politics, economy, security, maritime affairs and people-to-people relations. The two nations held their first-ever Comprehensive and Strategic Dialogue (CSD), during which the top Chinese diplomat stated that the co-op would “send a clear signal to the world of solidarity”.
The two sides decided to launch consultations on a five-year China-Indonesia action plan for 2027 to 2030.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono confirmed the deal will make trade easier and open new markets for Indonesia's top goods, building on a massive $167.48 billion trade relationship recorded in 2025.
Alongside the political talks, Chinese Defence Minister Admiral Dong Jun met with Indonesian DM Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin to boost their military alliance following recent joint naval drills. Admiral Dong Jun stated that stronger ties will protect core national interests and firmly stop interference from foreign forces.
The meeting comes as Beijing and Jakarta celebrate 76 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, building on the comprehensive strategic partnership they established in 2013.
